When I got the call during my Erasmus in Palermo if o wanted to become a teacher at a public school in Vilnius, I never thought it would lead me here today.
It was just 20 year old Kubra, wanting to make a change in the education system. Three years later, being chosen as “Teacher of the Year” feels like a beautiful reminder that I’m on the right path and I hope this recognition will help me bring those changes closer to reality.
I’m receiving this award, but it’s truly for everyone who has supported me throughout my life and believed in me no matter what.
And, of course, I’m taking this one for MY STUDENTS. I call them not only my students, but also my besties.
Every year, I get to meet more than 15 new people who somehow become a part of my life. I feel incredibly lucky to witness their journeys, support them, and be there whenever they need me.
We need educators in Vilnius who choose this profession not only for a job or a salary, but for the values it brings, educators who believe in young people and want to help create the future generation of leaders.
Dėkoju savo Tarptautinio bakalaureato (IB) koordinatorei Linai Labžentienei, direktoriui Ryčiui Komičiui ir visiems kitiems kolegoms, su kuriais kiekvieną dieną kartu siekiame, kad švietimas būtų geresnis.
